Blues look to complete sweep of season-opening trip; Binnington likely to get start tonight; Texier questionable

So how does one top what happened just 24 hours earlier for the St. Louis Blues?

Well, the end result is what mattered in a 5-4 overtime win against the San Jose Sharks in which the Blues (2-0-0) rallied for the second straight game from a multi-goal deficit, but it's not something they want to make a habit of.

Especially going against the Vegas Golden Knights (1-0-0), who are coming off an 8-4 thumping of the Colorado Avalanche to open their season Wednesday.

Puck drops at 9 p.m. today (BSMW, ESPN 101.1-FM).

A couple of moments from last night's game:

* Justin Faulk's game-tying goal in the final minute (47 seconds remaining) was the first for the Blues since Vladimir Tarasenko's game-tying goal with 20 seconds on Dec. 15, 2022 against the Edmonton Oilers. That was a shorthanded goal that tied the game 3-3, a game the Blues ultimately won 4-3 in a shootout.

They went 133 straight games without such a feat.

* The Blues have two multi-goal comebacks in their first two games of the season. It marked the second time St. Louis opened a season with two consecutive multi-goal comeback victories (2009-10) as well as the fifth three-goal, third-period comeback win in Blues history:

Expect Jordan Binnington to get the start tonight after Joel Hofer faced 29 shots (25 saves) in the game Thursday.

As for forward Alexandre Texier, who was a late scratch Thursday after taking warmups due to an upper-body injury, he is day to day and questionable for tonight and was replaced by the season debut of Zack Bolduc.

Bannister will speak at 7 p.m. (CT) to update any lineup changes. 

Brandon Saad (paternity leave) will not join the team for the game tonight but is expected to be available for the home opener Tuesday against the Minnesota Wild. Bannister said postgame that Saad and wife Alyssa welcomed their third child, a daughter, on Thursday.
