The St. Louis Blues took a nice step in the right direction this season. After missing the playoffs in back-to-back seasons, the Blues got back into the post-season this spring. The Blues also put up a good fight against the Presidents' Trophy-winning Winnipeg Jets in the first round, losing Game 7 in double overtime.
Now, after a strong 2024-25 season, the Blues should be busy this summer. It is clear that they should be looking to continue to improve their roster, and one specific area they could look to upgrade is their bottom six. Due to this, one player who they should have on their radar if he becomes a free agent on July 1 is Edmonton Oilers forward Trent Frederic.
Frederic, 27, would be a good player for the Blues to sign for their bottom six. The 2016 first-round pick would make the Blues a more challenging team to go up against, as he is a very physical player with plenty of toughness. He is also an appealing potential target because he offers versatility, being able to play both center and on the wing.
Frederic has also shown in the past that he can be impactful offensive contributor. While he had just eight goals and 15 points in 58 games split between the Boston Bruins and Oilers this season, he had also had 18 goals and 40 points in 82 games with Boston just back in 2023-24. Thus, he certianly could bounce back from an offensive standpoint next season.
Ultimately, Frederic could be a solid player for the Blues to bring in to bolster their bottom six. It will be fascinating to see if the St. Louis native becomes a Blue from here.
