St. Louis Blues prospect Milton Gastrin will be loaned to the SHL for the 2026-27 season and will also represent Sweden at the upcoming World Junior Summer Showcase.
Recently acquired St. Louis Blues prospect Milton Gastrin will be loaned to Brynas IF of the SHL for the 2026-27 season.
Gastrin was acquired alongside Connor McMichael and a 2026 first-round pick from the Washington Capitals in a deal that sent Jordan Kyrou the other way.
Gastrin is a 19-year-old left-handed forward who was selected in the second round (37th overall) in the 2025 NHL draft.
He spent his D+1 season on loan with MoDo in the HockeyAllsvenskan, Sweden’s second professional league. There, he scored 10 goals and 24 points in 39 games. Gastrin also represented Sweden at the World Junior Championship, but played in a sheltered role and did not record any points in six games.
Gastrin will likely be on the 2027 world juniors roster, as he was recently invited to represent Sweden at the World Junior Summer Showcase.
Gastrin will return to Sweden next year to play in the SHL. Gastrin previously played eight games in Sweden’s top professional league in his draft year, doing so with MoDo. Now he’ll be on a Brynas IF roster, which features several former NHL players.
Featuring on this Brynas IF roster are Kiefer Bellows, a former 2016 first-round pick, Christian Djoos, Erik Kallgren, Robert Hagg, Axel Jonsson-Fjallby, Oskar Lindblom, Mattias Norlinder, Jakob Slifverberg, and possible Hockey Hall of Famer, Nicklas Backstrom.
The team also features NHL draft prospects like Victor Johansson (Toronto Maple Leafs), Charlie Forslund (Detroit Red Wings), Victor Hedin Raftheim (Columbus Blue Jackets) and Gustav Hillstrom (New Jersey Devils).
