The St. Louis Blues have had a busy off-season. One of their most notable moves was signing forward Pius Suter to a two-year contract with an average annual value (AAV) of $4.13 million.
It was no secret that the Blues needed to find an upgrade at the third-line center spot, and Suter will now give them just that. However, there is more about Suter's game that should make this move a very good one for the Blues.
Suter is well-known for his excellent defensive play, so he should be a key penalty-killer for the Blues moving forward. In addition, due to his versatility, he can play all three forward positions and move up and down the lineup easily. Thus, the Blues are going to have plenty of options to work with for him in their lineup, which is not a bad thing in the slightest.
Suter also demonstrated this past season with the Canucks that he is capable of making an impact offensively. In 81 games during the 2024-25 season, he set new career highs with 25 goals and 46 points. After a season like this, Suter should be a candidate for some power-play time with the Blues, too.
With the Blues looking to take another step forward next season, improving at the center position was a must for them. Thus, it makes sense that they have signed Suter.
Nevertheless, it is hard not to like this move for the Blues. They brought in Suter at an affordable cap hit, and it is not a long deal, with it being just two years. Thus, there is not much risk to this signing, and it will be fascinating to see how much of an impact Suter makes for the Blues from here.
