St. Louis Blues prospect Juraj Pekarcik will live to play at least another game.
A third-round pick in the 2023 NHL Draft, Pekarcik scored a goal and assisted on another, and the Moncton Wildcats stayed alive in the 2025 Memorial Cup with a 6-2 win over Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League rival Rimouski Oceanic on Wednesday.
The Wildcats (1-1-1-0) needed a win over Oceanic (0-3-0-0), which lost to Moncton in the QMJHL championship series in six games, in order to advance to the semifinal. By doing so, Moncton will now face the Ontario Hockey League champion London Knights on Friday at 6 p.m. (CT), a rematch of last Saturday's pool play game, won by London 3-2 in overtime.
The winner of Friday's game will play the Western Hockey League champion Medicine Hat Tigers, who went 3-0-0-0 and win the four-team pool, for the Memorial Cup title on Sunday at 6 p.m.
Pekarcik set up Julius Sumpf for the opening goal on a terrific low seam pass through the crease to the backdoor at 7:39 of the first period:
Then down 2-1 in the second period, Pekarcik scored his first of the tournament on a high-slot redirection to tie the game 2-2 at 1:27 of the second period:
It was the first of five unanswered goals by the Wildcats, who scored twice into the empty net to seal the win and eliminate Rimouski.
