St. Louis Blues center Robert Thomas was the most prominent name involved in trade discussions at the 2026 NHL trade deadline.
Ultimately, nothing formulated, but there was plenty of speculation surrounding the Blues’ 26-year-old center.
While nothing came to fruition about a trade for Thomas, Blues defenseman Colton Parayko declined a trade to the Buffalo Sabres. Blues GM Doug Armstrong was upset by the leaks and angry that Parayko was forced to make the decision in the public eye, rather than in private.
With Thomas, the Blues did a good job of keeping everything private. The only information revealed about Thomas concerned the teams interested in acquiring him.
Earlier today, Elliotte Friedman was on The Fan Hockey Show, mentioning that he had heard that Thomas never fully denied a trade. Still, he indicated there were certain situations he wouldn’t want to go to.
Also today, Thomas featured on Jeff Marek’s ‘The Sheet,’ and was asked about the trade deadline process and whether he was asked to waive his no-trade clause.
“No, no, I was never asked anything from the Blues,” started Thomas. “There was everything that I heard was coming from the insiders and different things online. I just want to be clear: I was never asked, and nor did I ever ask for a trade.”
Robert Thomas has scored 15 goals and 40 points in 46 games (Kevin Ng-Imagn Images)Insiders have reported that the Blues could revisit trade offers for Thomas in the off-season, but he would still cost a very high price.
The 2025-26 season hasn’t been too kind to Thomas, but since returning from his lower-body injury, he’s looked like his usual self, scoring four goals and seven points in four games, recording multiple points in three games, and recording points in all four contests.
