Third round pick in 2019 put up very respectable numbers in ECHL, AHL last season
The St. Louis Blues have been busy since the end of the season getting contracts for many of their minor league players as well as prospects.
They helped shore up the goaltending situation with the Springfield Thunderbirds of the American Hockey League when the team announced Tuesday morning they have signed Colten Ellis to a one-year, two-way contract.
The team announced the deal is for $775,000 NHL and $85,000 AHL.
The 23-year-old split last season between the ECHL's Orlando Solar Bears and the Thunderbirds.
In Springfield last season, despite posting a 7-9-0 record, Ellis put up a very respectable 2.89 goals-against average and .924 save percentage that ranked fifth among AHL goalies with at least 15 appearances. He was 12-5-1 with a 2.45 GAA and .923 save percentages in 21 games with the Solar Bears.
Overall, Ellis has a 8-12-3 record with a 3.17 GAA and a .913 save percentage in 22 career AHL regular-season games.
The third round pick (93rd overall) of the 2019 NHL Draft will likely split duties next season in Springfield with Vadim Zherenko, who split time with veteran Malcolm Subban most of the season before Subban was traded to the Columbus Blue Jackets for future considerations.
