After the Edmonton Oilers chose not to match the St. Louis Blues' two-year, $9,161,834 offer sheet for defenseman Philip Broberg, the Blues' hope was that the 2019 first-round pick would tap more into his potential and become a key part of their roster. When looking at how he performed during the 2024-25 season, it is fair to say that he has done just that.
In 68 games this past season with the Blues, Broberg recorded new career highs with eight goals, 21 assists, 29 points, 103 blocks, and a plus-21 rating. Overall, it was a strong breakout season for Broberg, and there is no question that the change of scenery benefited him big time.
While Broberg took a notable step forward in his development this past season, there is no question that he still has the potential to improve even further as he continues to gain more experience with the Blues. Although Broberg just completed his fourth NHL season, he spent his first three seasons getting limited opportunities with the Oilers. Now that he has a far more prominent role with the Blues, he should only get better, and this is especially so when noting that he is still only 24 years old.
Nevertheless, it is going to be very fascinating to see how Broberg follows up his breakout 2024-25 campaign with the Blues next season from here. It would not be surprising in the slightest if he hits another new level.
Blues Should Consider Targeting Interesting Sniper
The St. Louis Blues could use another winger in their top nine after trading Zack Bolduc to the Montreal Canadiens in exchange for defenseman Logan Mailloux earlier this off-season. Due to this, one remaining unrestricted free agent (UFA) who they should consider targeting is forward Victor Olofsson.
