Logan Mailloux was seen skating alone today before the St. Louis Blues' team practice. The 23-year-old had hand surgery and is just three weeks into his eight-week timeline.
The St. Louis Blues have dealt with numerous injuries since their season began on Oct. 2.
The Blues now have injuries to Alexey Toropchenko, Dillon Dube, and Ross Johnston, but before the season started, they lost Tyler Tucker and Logan Mailloux to injury.
It's been a long road back for the two defensemen, as both were handed long-term timelines. But now, Mailloux appears to be inching towards a return.
Mailloux suffered a hand injury that required surgery after a fight in the pre-season finale against the Chicago Blackhawks. Mailloux was said to be re-evaluated in eight weeks, and it's only been three weeks, so Mailloux is likely still a ways away from returning.
But it was a positive sign to see Mailloux skating. According to The Athletic's Jeremy Rutherford, Mailloux was skating on his own before today's Blues practice. This is the first of us hearing that Mailloux has resumed skating.
The specifics of what Mailloux did on the ice haven't been revealed, but today's session was likely intended to get him back on his skates and moving again. Less than halfway through his expected timeline, the 23-year-old is likely still unable to use his injured hand to play hockey.
Mailloux remains on the injured reserve for the time being, but this is a positive step toward his return to action.
