Defenseman, who could have been a RFA with arbitration rights, gets $1.15 million

ST. LOUIS -- Scott Perunovich and the St. Louis Blues didn't need arbitration to settle on a contract.

The team and the defenseman came to an agreement, and Perunovich signed a one-year, one way contract for $1.15 million.

The 25-year-old played in 54 regular-season games for the Blues last season and had 17 assists. It's the most games he's played in a career thus far that's been marred by injuries that have sidelined the left-handed shot for large swaths of his short career.

Perunovich was set to become a restricted free agent July 1 with arbitration rights.

After the season, Blues general manager Doug Armstrong said, "We saw Scott Perunovich play and now we know what we have, and closer to what we have."

The Hibbing, Minnesota native has played in 73 regular-season games with the Blues and has registered 23 assists, and has played in seven Stanley Cup playoff games, recording four assists. He was originally drafted by the Blues in the second round (45th pick) of the 2018 NHL Draft.

With his $1.15 million cap hit, Perunovich, who can once again be a RFA next summer with arbitration rights, brings the Blues' cap number down to just under $15 million and puts St. Louis at 18 contracts.
