Report: Ex-Blues Star Being Discussed In Trade Talks

This former Blues star has once again entered the rumor mill.

Former St. Louis Blues star Vladimir Tarasenko signed a two-year, $9.5 million contract with the Detroit Red Wings this past off-season. This was after he had 23 goals, 55 points, and a plus-13 rating in 76 games split between the Ottawa Senators and Florida Panthers this past season.

Tarasenko has struggled this season with Detroit, posting seven goals, 15 assists, and a minus-8 rating in 53 games. Now, after being traded in back-to-back seasons, he is once again being brought up in the rumor mill.

In the latest episode of Sportsnet's Saturday Headlines, NHL insider Elliotte Friedman reported that there have been some conversations surrounding Tarasenko in the trade market.

"So, this one is a little bit of a surprise," Friedman said. "Vladimir Tarasenko is in the first year of two in Detroit, and he's got a no-trade clause this year. But I've heard there's been some noise around him. The Red Wings have gotten much better. They are in the race. A lot of their players have started to play better, but it's kind of struggled to be a fit [for Tarasenko]... I just heard in his particular case, there's been some conversation around him, and we'll see how it all develops."

With Tarasenko having a full no-trade clause, he would need to give Detroit the green light on any potential trade. Starting next season, his NTC changes to an eight-team trade list.

It will be fascinating to see what happens with Tarasenko and the Red Wings from here. In 644 games as a Blue over 11 seasons, he had 262 goals, 553 points, and a plus-57 rating.
