St. Louisan Tkachuk scores in three-goal third-period comeback, only to fall 5-4 in OT; another quiet game for Blues' Hayes, Kessel scratched for third straight game

Brady Tkachuk and Team USA spotted Slovakia a large enough lead that a regulation upset was in the making at the 2024 IIHF World Championship.

Slovakia built up a three-goal third-period lead before USA mounted a comeback, but Milos Keleman (Utah Hockey Team) scored his second goal of the game 3:56 into overtime to help Slovakia recover for a 5-4 win at Ostrava Arena in Ostrava, Czechia on Monday.

The Slovaks (1-1-0-1, five points) led 2-0 after one period and 4-1 after two before Shane Pinto (Ottawa Senators), Tkachuk (Senators) and Luke Hughes (New Jersey Devils) scored third-period goals to send the game to OT before USA (1-0-1-1, four points) fell.

    USA outshot the Slovaks 43-25.

St. Louis Blues forward Kevin Hayes went without a point for the third straight game but played 11:38 and was a minus-1 in the game. Defenseman Matthew Kessel was a healthy scratch for the third straight game.
