ST. LOUIS -- Jordan Kyrou felt like the rest of his teammates: disappointed in the immediate aftermath, proud of the big picture.
The St. Louis Blues right wing had perhaps his best all-around season in the NHL this past year but was in no mood to talk about his accomplishments.
The 27-year-old was more looking at the team concept after the Blues were eliminated by the Winnipeg Jets in seven games of the Western Conference First Round, falling 4-3 in double overtime last Sunday after leading 3-1 with less than two minutes to play.
Kyrou, who scored three goals in the series, led the Blues in goals (36) and was second in points (70) playing in all 82 regular-season games for the second straight season.
He led the Blues with a plus-23 on the season after having a combined minus-50 the past two seasons, including a team-worst minus-38 in 2022-23 despite scoring a career-high 37 goals.
He was asked about the way the season ended, the change in team culture and going forward:
With all you got done in the season, how does the feeling change when the season ends like that?
It's tough. Obviously last year, you're counting down the days. You know there's four or five games left and you're waiting for the season to end. Obviously it's a lot different this year. We go right to Game 7 and like 'Schenner' said, we're one goal away from continuing to play. It's just kind of in shock that we're just not playing anymore, so it's tough.
On change in culture, when did you guys start to feel the culture change, how difficult was it and why were you guys able to change it this year?
Like we've said in the past, I guess the culture was kind of slipping away a little bit and I think that was our biggest thing this year, trying to build that culture back up again and I feel like it didn't just happen in one day. It was built up over I'd say the last couple months of just everyone just sacrificing and just really building our identity as a group and building that resiliency. I think it just accumulated over the last couple months. Like Brayden said, it went to Game 7, one goal away from going to the next series, but obviously we have a lot to look forward to and we obviously want to be better next year.
Came back after hit by Logan Stanley. How tough was it to respond after that?
Obviously they've got a tough team up there, and we've got a tough team. We knew going into the series it was going to be a battle and you've just got to be ready for everything. They're going to be trying to crush us, we're trying to crush them and it's going to be a battle. Just kind of just sticking with it and not getting frustrated of getting hit when guys are battling super-hard.
After being away from the playoffs playoffs for a couple years, what did you learn from this experience yourself?
I think I've learned a lot in this series compared to the past I guess. Just the compete and the battle and how much everyone puts into the series. It was a tough series. We're right there and obviously it's not a great feeling being done with the season right now.
