With Robert Thomas put of lineup with fractured ankle, chance for Kyrou to pick up slack in scoring; has point per game thus far this season

Robert Thomas is not around for the foreseeable future. That is inevitable after the St. Louis Blues' top center fractured his ankle blocking a shot in a 3-2 loss against the Winnipeg Jets on Tuesday.

Thomas will be reevaluated in six weeks, which means others have to pick up the slack of what will be left behind with Thomas out of the lineup.

For Jordan Kyrou, the player to watch for the Blues (4-3-0) against the Toronto Maple Leafs (4-3-0) at 6 p.m. today (FDSNMW, ESPN 101.1-FM), he won't be able to pick up some of the things Thomas brings to the table, but it will be imperative that he does pick up the scoring slack.

Kyrou is on a point-per-game clip for the Blues this far through seven games with seven points (two goals, five assists), but he has just one assist the past four games after starting off red-hot at six points (two goals, four assists) in the first three games.

Kyrou, who has six points (two goals, four assists) in seven games against the Craig Berube-led Maple Leafs, can start the process right now with Thomas missing up to as much as 18 games or more moving forward.

And it's no secret that he and Berube weren't on the same page at the end of Berube's tenure with the Blues, so what better way to completely close that door than to have an impactful game against his former coach tonight knowing Berube will put plenty of focus on stopping the speedy Blues right wing?
