Conor Geekie Taking Major Step Forward in Syracuse cover image

The trade that saw the Tampa Bay Lightning acquire JJ Moser for Mikhail Sergachev has already looked great for the Bolts, but prospect Conor Geekie may make the deal very lopsided if he continues to develop like he has this season.

While Geekie's stint in the NHL didn't light the hockey world on fire, he has taken a major step forward in his development with the American Hockey League's Syracuse Crunch. Right after he was re-assigned to the AHL in late October, Geekie started putting up points at a rapid pace.

More recently, Geekie has been on a major hot streak. He has eight points in his last five games, all of which were assists, and 14 points in his last ten outings. Add in the fact that he's known for his reliable two-way style of play, and it seems like he's quickly becoming a valuable player at the AHL level.

At just 21 years of age, the Lightning will be in no rush to push Geekie up to the NHL, but he seems like he could be on the verge of success. Whenever general manager Julien BriseBois decides to give Geekie another opportunity, he'll need to make the most of it and earn head coach Jon Cooper's trust. If he can do that, he might make it difficult to send him back down.
