The Tampa Bay Lightning moved on from a handful of players this off-season. One of them was veteran forward Luke Glendening, as the Bolts elected not to re-sign him.
Due to this, Glendening hit the market as an unrestricted free agent (UFA) on July 1. Now, with the start of September right around the corner, Glendening remains without a contract for the 2025-26 season.
Given Glendening's resume, it would not be too surprising if he landed a professional tryout (PTO) before NHL training camps begin next month. The 36-year-old is well-known for his solid defensive play and strong ability at the faceoff dot, so that could help his chances of landing a PTO from a team looking to improve their forward depth. It also does not hurt that he has 12 years of his NHL experience on his resume.
In 77 games this past season with the Lightning, Glendening recorded four goals, three assists, seven points, and 105 hits. While his offense was down in 2024-25 with the Lightning, he had a successful year at the dot, winning 57% of his faceoffs.
Nevertheless, it will be interesting to see if Glendening can find a new home before the start of the season.
Lightning Defender Should Hit New Level
During this past off-season, the Tampa Bay Lightning traded star defenseman Mikhail Sergachev to the Utah Mammoth. With the Lightning needing to free up cap space, they made the tough decision to move on from the left-shot defenseman.
