Former Tampa Bay Lightning forward Simon Ryfors has signed a three-year contract extension with Swiss club HC Davos.
The 27-year-old played two seasons within the Lightning's organization, both coming with the Syracuse Crunch in the AHL. In his second AHL season, Ryfors recorded 27 goals and 59 points in 72 games, leading the team in goals and finishing second in points.
Although his first two seasons with the Lightning organization were successful, Ryfors never earned a call-up to the NHL. He decided to return to his home country, Sweden, where he played for Rogle, having spent almost all of his professional and junior career. After one season, Ryfors made a move again, joining Davos on a one-year deal.
In his first season in Switzerland, the Stockholm, SWE native scored eight goals and 30 points in 42 games.
Davos' lineup is filled with former NHL players, including Filip Zadina, Adam Tambellini, Joakim Nordström, Brendan Lemieux, Rasmus Asplund and Klas Dahlbeck. Davos are a historic team in the National League, winning the championship a league-leading 31 times, although they haven't been crowned victors since 2015. With a talented roster headlined by Ryfors, Davos will be eager to retake its place among the top Swiss teams.
