This former Lightning defenseman has been placed on waivers by the Canucks.
A former Tampa Bay Lightning defenseman is available for the taking.
This is because the Vancouver Canucks have placed former Lightning defenseman Jack Thompson on waivers.
Thompson had been out with an injury since the start of the 2026-27 season. Yet, with the right-shot blueliner hitting waivers, he is ready to return to game action.
Teams looking for defensive depth could consider taking a chance on a young blueliner like Thompson with a waiver claim. Yet, if the former Lightning defenseman passes through waivers unclaimed, Vancouver would then be able to send him to their AHL affiliate, the Abbotsford Canucks.
Thompson was selected by the Lightning in the third round of the 2020 NHL Entry Draft, 93rd overall. From there, he played his first career NHL game with the Lightning during the 2023-24 season, where he threw two hits.
Thompson's time with the Lightning ended later in the 2023-24 campaign, as the Bolts traded him to the San Jose Sharks in the deal that brought Anthony Duclair to Tampa.
