There's a real chance that Steven Stamkos could be heading to the Western Conference.

According to NHL insider Pierre LeBrun, the Nashville Predators are currently the frontrunner to sign Steven Stamkos. However, LeBrun also made sure to note that nothing is finalized at this juncture.

The Predators have been heavily connected to Stamkos over the last several weeks, and there appears to be a real chance that they will land him. When noting that their top six needs a big boost, bringing in Stamkos would be massive for the retooling squad.

If the Predators landed Stamkos, he could be the club's first-line center. However, due to his ability to play on the wing, he would also work virtually anywhere in their top six. Thus, on paper, it looks like there could be a good match if they get a deal done.

If Stamkos joins the Predators, it will be a tough day for Tampa Bay Lightning fans. He has been the heart of their franchise for over a decade and captained them to two Stanley Cups. While it is nice that they picked up a star in Jake Guentzel, it still would hurt to lose No. 91 to the Predators or another club.
