What can the Lightning expect from their big off-season addition?
The 2026-27 season is almost here for the Tampa Bay Lightning.
Due to this, we here at The Hockey News Lightning are starting a player preview series that will look at each Bolts player.
In this latest edition of the series, let's take a look at defenseman John Carlson.
John Carlson Looking To Make A Major Impact
With the Lightning moving on from Darren Raddysh this off-season, they needed to find a replacement for their right side. Due to this, the Lightning signed Carlson to a two-year, $17 million contract in free agency.
Although Carlson is 36 years old, he has the potential to be a major addition to the Lightning's roster. This is because the veteran defenseman can still produce strong offense from the point and is well-known for his great leadership qualities.
Carlson appeared in 71 games last season split between the Washington Capitals and Anaheim Ducks, where he posted 14 goals, 46 assists, and 60 points. If he put up similar numbers for Tampa Bay this season, this would be great for the Atlantic Division club.
Nevertheless, it will be very interesting to see what kind of season Carlson puts together for Tampa Bay in 2026-27 from here.
