The Tampa Bay Lightning have made several moves this morning.

On Wednesday, multiple reports confirmed that the Lightning have placed defenseman Mikhail Sergachev on injured reserve. He was listed as day-to-day but has been out since December 21, and he'll finally land on IR, granting the club an extra roster spot.

The Lightning are struggling on the back end with injuries, as Erik Cernak (upper body) and Haydn Fleury (hand) are both unavailable. Diandra Loux, a Lightning reporter for THN, announced that Tampa Bay recalled defenseman Sean Day and Declan Carlile from Syracuse.

    Sean Day

Sean Day, 25, has eight assists across 17 games with zero goals. Since the 2021-22 season, Day has not recorded a goal. He has not appeared in an NHL game since that season, recording zero points in two games.

His counterpart, Declan Carlile, 23. Despite playing over 100 AHL games, he has not yet made his NHL debut. This season he is pacing for 21 points with six assists and nine points through 31 games.

This move is to fix the blueline temporarily ahead of tonight’s game in Minnesota. As for Sergachev, he is eligible to return on January 13 vs. Anaheim Ducks. It is unknown if he will need longer than that to recover.

The 25-year-old has 17 assists and 19 points in 33 games this season. In his last two seasons, he has only missed six games from 2021 to 2022. This year he has missed as many games in significantly less time.
