Steven Stamkos has scored a goal in four straight games, racking up seven points during that time.
The Tampa Bay Lightning became the first team in NHL history to score eight or more goals on 14 or fewer shots in a win. Half of those 8 goals against Carolina came directly from the power play.
Steven Stamkos was first to put the Lightning on the board after a full period of the Canes clogging up the neutral zone and completely eliminating their ability to shoot the puck. He secured one from his go-to spot on the power play with assists from Brayden Point and Nikita Kucherov. Then the flood gates opened.
The Bolts went on to score two more, taking only three shots over a span of four minutes and 20 seconds.
The captain moved within one of becoming the seventh player in NHL history to record 200 power-play goals with a single franchise.
The others? Alex Ovechkin (300), Mario Lemieux (236), Luc Robitaille (210), Gordie Howe (209), Joe Sakic (205) and Steve Yzerman (202). Safe to say he’s in good company.
Stamkos extended his point streak to five games and has 23 points on the season.
The Lightning power play has been their anchor, going 4/5 last night and giving them the second-best power-play percentage in the NHL at 34.7%. The New Jersey Devils hold the top spot at 36.5%.
