Team U.S.A. and Team Canada will meet for the first time since the Americans captured the gold medal in Milan. While Team USA prevailed in Italy and won Worlds last year, the Canadians will be clear favorites this time around in Switzerland, led by Sidney Crosby and Macklin Celebrini.

This marks the 15th straight year, and 29th time overall, that Team USA has reached the quarterfinals at the IIHF Men’s World Championship.

The Americans are 10-2-4-12 (W-OTW-OTL-L) all-time in quarterfinal action and have won four of their last five quarterfinal matchups, including a 5-2 win over Finland during last year’s gold-medal run.

Tampa Bay Lightning defenseman Declan Carlile, making his first appearance representing Team USA at the senior level, has recorded one goal and two assists with a +2 rating in four games.

Puck drop is set for 10:20 a.m. ET in Switzerland. Carlile’s Lightning teammate J.J. Moser and Switzerland will face Sweden later today at 2:20 p.m. ET.
