The Lightning should consider taking a chance on this veteran defenseman with a PTO.
The Tampa Bay Lightning should be open to the possibility of inviting at least one player to their training camp on a professional tryout (PTO) agreement.
When looking at a specific roster on their roster that could use more depth, their blueline stands out. Due to this, one remaining free agent who the Lightning should consider signing to a PTO for training camp is defenseman John Klingberg.
Klingberg still being a free agent comes after he had a pretty solid 2025-26 season with the San Jose Sharks. In 56 games for the Sharks during this past campaign, he posted 10 goals, 17 assists, and 27 points. With numbers like these, the veteran blueliner showed that he can still produce decent offense from the point.
If Klingberg impressed on a PTO and earned a contract for the season, he would offer them another option for their bottom pairing and second power play unit. Yet, he could even be useful to have around for the Lightning if he was used as an extra defenseman for them.
Nevertheless, there would be no real harm in the Lightning signing Klingberg to a PTO for training camp. It will be intriguing to see if they end up doing just that.
