When looking at the Tampa Bay Lightning’s roster, it is clear that they have plenty of star talent. While this is the case, it is also fair to argue that they could benefit from adding to their forward depth.
Due to this, it would be understandable if the Lightning invited a player or two to training camp on a professional tryout (PTO). When looking the remaining unrestricted free agents (UFAs) one player who stands out as an interesting potential PTO target is forward Klim Kostin.
Kostin’s heavy style of play and toughness could make him a solid addition to the Lightning’s bottom six if he were to earn a contract for the season. In 35 games this past season with the San Jose Sharks, he recorded a notable 111 hits.
Offensively, it was a bit of a quiet year for Kostin in 2024-25, as he recorded just one goal and seven points with the Sharks. Yet, the 2017 first-round pick has also shown in the past seasons that he possesses some offensive upside. During the 2022-23 season with the Edmonton Oilers, for example, he posted career highs with 11 goals, 10 assists, and 21 points in 57 games.
With this, Kostin could be a decent player for the Lightning to take a chance on with a PTO. There would be zero risk in inviting the 6-foot-4 forward to camp.
