The Lightning should consider taking a gamble on this defenseman with a PTO.
The Tampa Bay Lightning recently signed forward Kole Lind to a professional tryout (PTO) agreement.
But could the Bolts consider adding another player on a PTO as well? The possibility should not be ruled out.
It would not hurt for the Lightning to invite a defenseman to their training camp on a PTO. They could use more competition when it comes to their blueline, and one remaining free agent who could make sense for the Lightning to take a look at is Adam Boqvist.
Boqvist spent last season with the New York Islanders, where he posted four assists in 28 games. This was after he had four goals and 14 points in 35 games split between the Florida Panthers and New York Islanders in 2024-25.
Boqvist has showed more offensive promise in the past, though. In 2022-23 with the Columbus Blue Jackets, he scored five goals and set career highs with 19 assists and 24 points in 46 games. He also had 11 goals and 22 points in 52 games for Columbus in 2021-22.
With past numbers like these, it could make sense for the Lightning to take a gamble on a former first-round pick like Boqvist with a PTO. If he impressed and landed a contract for the season, he could work well as an extra defenseman for the Bolts.
