During the 2019-20 season, the Tampa Bay Lightning went on an 11-game winning streak, beginning at the end of January and running through the first half of February.
Tonight, the Lightning have the opportunity to tie that franchise record. They've won ten straight, with the streak beginning on December 20, but they're on the second half of a back-to-back and playing one of the game's all-time greats, Sidney Crosby. They've had 10-game winning streaks four teams in franchise history now, but up to this point, they've only been able to make it to 11 wins a single time.
The Pittsburgh Penguins have lost two in a row, falling to the Calgary Flames and Boston Bruins in low-scoring affairs over the weekend. However, before that they won six-straight, which makes a legitimate threat to the winning streak despite being outside of a playoff spot.
In their last meeting with the Penguins, the Lightning were defeated 4-3 early in December. The Lightning will also be without a key player, as Brayden Point left last night's game against the Philadelphia Flyers and will be out of the lineup tonight.
The Lightning have an opportunity to change their record books tonight, but it certainly won't be easy to do.
