The coaching staff for the 2026-27 Syracuse Crunch just got a little stronger, as earlier this week the Tampa Bay Lightning announced that they had hired Sylvain Favreau, the former head coach of the Drummondville Voltigeurs in the Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League as an AHL assistant coach.

With the Crunch, Favreau will make his professional coaching debut, as he's previously only coached at the junior level. With that being said, he did lead the Voltigeurs to a QMJHL championship during his first season behind the bench, 2023-24. That same year, as an assistant coach for Team Canada at the Hlinka Gretzky Cup, he earned a gold medal for his country.

More recently, Favreau was presented with the Ron Lapointe Trophy as the QMJHL's Coach of the Year at the end of the 2025-26 season, which was his last behind the bench in Drummondville.

"I am very excited for Sylvain to join our staff," Crunch General Manager and Head Coach Joel Bouchard said in a press release. "He is an accomplished coach with a winning pedigree and a strong background in development."
