The Tampa Bay Lightning are bringing in a former first-round pick.
According to Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman, the Lightning have signed forward Jakob Pelletier to a three-year contract.
Pelletier, 24, hit the market as an unrestricted free agent (UFA) after the Philadelphia Flyers did not send him a qualifying offer. Now, he is joining the Lightning's roster, where he will look to take that next step.
Pelletier is certainly an interesting player to bring in, as he is a former Calgary Flames first-round pick and still young enough that he can improve. With the Lightning needing more depth offensive production, bringing in a forward like Pelletier makes sense.
Pelletier appeared in 49 games this past season split between the Flames and Flyers, where he posted new career highs with seven goals, 12 assists, 19 points, and 47 hits. Overall, it was a step in the right direction for the skilled forward, and he will now look to build off that with the Lightning from here.
In 86 career NHL games over three seasons, Pelletier has recorded 11 goals, 18 assists, 29 points, and a plus-3 rating.
