The Tampa Bay Lightning have announced that they have signed forward Gage Goncalves to a two-year, $2.4 million contract. Starting next season, he will carry a $1.2 million cap hit.
Overall, this is a good bridge deal for both the player and the team. Goncalves has landed himself a raise, while the Lightning were able to keep the cap hit at a reasonable price. In addition, if Goncalves continues to trend in the right direction, he will have the chance to get another nice raise in just two years.
Goncalves appeared in 60 games this past season with the Lightning, where he had eight goals, 20 points, and a plus-7 rating. He also recorded one goal and four points in five playoff games for the Bolts this year.
