The Tampa Bay Lightning are expected to try to add to their forward group by the 2025 NHL trade deadline. While their top forwards are producing, they undoubtedly could use more secondary scoring.
When looking at potential trade candidates around the NHL, one player who the Lightning should consider targeting is Chicago Blackhawks forward Ryan Donato.
After the Blackhawks traded Taylor Hall to the Carolina Hurricanes, Donato is now the top trade candidate on the rebuilding squad. The 28-year-old forward is a pending unrestricted free agent, so he could be a solid rental for a team needing more offense like the Bolts.
When looking at the Lightning's lineup, Donato could be a strong addition to their middle six. This is especially so when noting that he is able to play down the middle and on the wing. In addition, he would give them another option to work with for their second power-play unit.
Donato is having a strong season with the Blackhawks, as he has 14 goals and 28 points in 47 games. With numbers like these, he would give the Lightning some of the depth scoring they need right now. The Lightning will be able to watch him up close shortly, as they are playing the Blackhawks on Jan. 28.
