The NHL has announced that Tampa Bay Lightning forward Brayden Point is a finalist for the 2024-25 Lady Byng Memorial Trophy. Vegas Golden Knights forward Jack Eichel and Los Angeles Kings captain Anze Kopitar have also been named finalists for this year's award.
The Lady Byng Trophy is given yearly to the NHL player "adjudged to have exhibited the best type of sportsmanship and gentlemanly conduct combined with a high standard of playing ability."
Point being a finalist for the Lady Byng is entirely understandable. The 5-foot-11 forward is known for playing a clean game, and that was certainly remained the case this season. He finished the season with only one minor penalty and seven penalty minutes in 77 games for the Lightning. In addition, he certainly thrived with his offensive play this campaign, posting 42 goals, 82 points, and a plus-17 rating.
Point previously finished third in the Lady Byng Trophy voting for the 2022-23 season. Now, he will look to win this time around, and he has a real case to do so.
In 657 career games over nine seasons with the Lightning, Point has 306 goals, 329 assists, 635 points, 149 penalty minutes, and a plus-77 rating.
