The Tampa Bay Lightning should be looking to improve their bottom six this off-season. When looking at this year's pending unrestricted free agents (UFAs) who can hit the market on July 1, they should have some interesting players to consider.
One pending UFA who could make a lot of sense for the Lightning if he becomes available at the start of next month is Edmonton Oilers forward Connor Brown.
Brown, 31, is a smart two-way forward who is coming off a solid year with the Oilers. In 82 regular-season games with the Pacific Division club this campaign, he posted 13 goals, 30 points, and a plus-9 rating. He also recorded five goals, nine points, and a plus-1 rating in 20 playoff games for the Oilers this year.
If the Lightning signed Brown, he could be a strong fit on their third line with Nick Paul and Yanni Gourde. However, due to his versatility, he would also be able to still be effective moving up and down the Lightning's lineup if needed. Furthermore, because of his solid defensive play, he would also offer them another clear option on their penalty kill. This undoubtedly adds to his appeal.
In 601 career NHL games split between the Toronto Maple Leafs, Ottawa Senators, Washington Capitals, and Oilers, Brown has recorded 107 goals, 151 assists, and 258 points. He has also recorded at least 30 points in five out of his 10 NHL seasons. With numbers like these, he would be a solid depth addition to the Lightning's forward group.
Lightning Have Interesting Trade Target To Replace Nick Perbix
On June 22, <a href="https://x.com/TheFourthPeriod/status/1936812838716121346?ref_src=twsrc%5Egoogle%7Ctwcamp%5Eserp%7Ctwgr%5Etweet">The Fourth Period's David Pagnotta reported</a> that <a href="https://thehockeynews.com/nhl/tampa-bay-lightning">Tampa Bay Lightning</a> defenseman Nick Perbix will become an unrestricted free agent on July 1. Due to this, there appears to be a good chance that the right-shot defenseman will end up signing elsewhere.
