The Tampa Bay Lightning should be looking to add to their forward depth this off-season. When looking at their lineup, it is fair to say that their bottom six is one specific area that could use some improvement.

There are some interesting pending unrestricted free agents (UFAs) who can hit the market on July 1, who could be worth considering. One specific UFA who could make sense for the Lightning to pursue if he hits the market is Winnipeg Jets forward Brandon Tanev.

Tanev, 33, has been a dependable bottom-six forward throughout his career due to his high-energy style of play, grit, and solid defensive play. Because of this, he would be a good player for the Lightning to bring in on a short-term deal if he becomes available.

If the Lightning signed Tanev, he would be a clear fit on their fourth line and penalty kill. However, he could also be an option for the Lightning's third line if needed, especially when injuries arise.

Tanev appeared in 79 games this past season split between the Seattle Kraken and Jets, where he posted 10 goals, 22 points, 105 blocks, and 168 hits. With numbers like these, Tanev has the ability to provide decent secondary offensive production and plenty of physicality in a bottom-six role.

Overall, Tanev is precisely the kind of heart-and-soul player that playoff teams love to have on their roster. Due to this, if the Jets end up not re-signing him and he becomes a UFA on July 1, the Lightning should really consider targeting him.

This is because the Buffalo Sabres have traded Peterka to the Utah Mammoth in exchange for defenseman Michael Kesselring and forward Josh Doan.
