The Lightning are coming off an emotional 3-2 overtime win against the Los Angeles Kings on Tuesday night. They have an opportunity to string together a few wins, starting tonight against the Devils.

It’s been a bit of a rough go for New Jersey. Defenseman Jonas Siegenthaler left the game early on Saturday with a broken foot. Jack Hughes, Dougie Hamilton, and Tomas Nosek were all placed on IR. Timo Meier, and Ondrej Palat are also dealing with injuries.

For the Lightning, January is a month that they can use to reset and start grabbing points. On Tuesday, Brandon Hagel said the team would be viewing the next 40 games as a brand new season. Beating the Kings in overtime was a huge first step in getting to where they want to be. The Devils are currently just one point behind the Lightning for the second wild card spot. If it comes down to points at the end of the season, this game could be a difference-maker.

Practice Updates: Head coach Jon Cooper said on Thursday that there is no update on the status of Mikhail Sergachev, who was place on LTIR but eligible to return against Anaheim on Saturday. He is not skating and remains out week-to-week.

Forward Gage Goncalves was called up from Syracuse and it looks like he’ll be in the lineup tonight against New Jersey. He currently leads Syracuse with 30 points (7-23–30) in 33 games this season.
