The Lightning played a solid game Wednesday night, but they couldn't get the win after going coming back from a 2-0 deficit early on.

The Lightning’s three-game homestand came to a close Wednesday night with a 3-2 overtime defeat by the Winnipeg Jets.

Despite winning two of the four faceoffs in overtime, the Bolts had trouble managing the puck. Winnipeg generated most of the scoring chances while the Lightning were technically held to just one shot.

Lightning coach Jon Cooper noted that there were “breakdowns” in the overtime period but overall was content with the direction the team is going in.

“We're getting better as a team. I think when you have more confidence in yourself, your ability to come back heightens,” said Cooper.

“In saying that, that means we're behind. And we've got to fix that. But I thought we deserved points out of the game. Like I said, just a small breakdown in overtime and a good team took advantage of it."

The Bolts are currently sitting in third place in the Atlantic Division, to be there without Andrei Vasilevskiy is a good sign.

Steven Stamkos’s one-timer, straight from his 'office' on the power play brought them back into the game just five minutes after going down by two goals.

"When we're on our game, we have the puck a lot, we have the puck in the offensive zone and we're making some plays and getting some shots and we've had a lot of shots the last couple games, a lot of ozone pressure, a lot of scoring chances," said Stamkos.

"This was just one of those games where you play pretty well, you probably deserved a little better...but, you know, just a couple areas that if we tighten up, we probably shave off a goal against a game and that's the difference."

The Lightning have points in four straight games overall and took five of the possible six points at home.
