Lightning captain Victor Hedman already has a pretty stacked resume. Stanley Cup champion, Norris Trophy recipient, and Conn Smythe winner. In 2026, the veteran defenseman will add another milestone as he represents Sweden at the Olympic Winter Games in Milano Cortina.

According to NHL.com, Hedman was among 30 players who attended an informational Olympic meeting in Stockholm on Wednesday, organized by the Swedish Ice Hockey Association and the Swedish Olympic Committee (SOK).

“Getting to play in the Olympics is a dream come true,” Hedman said. “There are many here today who never got the chance to play in an Olympics; it is really not something you take for granted. For me it’s probably the last chance since I am getting older.”

Hedman was one of six players named to Sweden’s preliminary Olympic roster, along with Buffalo Sabres defenseman Rasmus Dahlin, Toronto Maple Leafs forward William Nylander, Detroit Red Wings forward Lucas Raymond, Los Angeles Kings forward Adrian Kempe and Colorado Avalanche forward Gabriel Landeskog.

“I think an Olympic tournament is an experience; living with other athletes, being able to gather with others after the games. It’s very special and should be really fun,” said Hedman.

The Lightning are expected to be well-represented at the 2026 Winter Olympics. Brayden Point will suit up for Team Canada, which will be Coached by Jon Cooper. Erik Cernak earned a nod from Team Slovakia. Zemgus Girgensons will slate in for Latvia, and Oliver Bjorkstrand will represent Denmark.

Jake Guentzel is anticipated to earn a spot on Team USA, while Anthony Cirelli and Brandon Hagel have been invited to attend Canada’s orientation camp later this month.
