Tampa Bay Lightning forward Zemgus Girgensons and Team Latvia are underdogs in nearly every game at the Olympics, and that was the case once again when they faced Germany on Saturday.
Girgensons got the primary assist on Latvia’s first goal of the night to tie the game at 1-1.
He then added his second assist of the night on Eduards Tralmaks’s go-ahead goal in the third period to make it 3-2 for Latvia.
Latvia hang on to win the game with a final score of 4-3, marking an important moment for Latvian hockey. It was their first win at the Olympics since 2014, according to NHL.com.
Team Latvia will be back in action on Sunday as they look for another upset against Denmark.
