Maple Leafs snapped a season-high four-game losing streak on Monday and points are at a premium in a tight Atlantic Division.
The Toronto Maple Leafs appear to have found their right lineup mix on Monday night when they defeated the Tampa Bay Lightning 6-5 in overtime on Monday. Matthews Knies fit in nicely on the team's top line with Auston Matthews and Mitch Marner. The trio combined for four goals, including two from Matthews who picked up his NHL-leading 12th and 13th goals of the season.
Nick Robertson, who was called up from the Toronto Marlies earlier in the game, set up the first of Calle Jarnkrok's two goals and helped Max Domi settle in as the third-line center.
The Maple Leafs had the day off on Tuesday and will hold a full morning skate on Wednesday morning where lineups will look a little clearer. While there appear to be no questions up front, the question remains will Jake McCabe be ready to return? The Maple Leafs defenseman has missed the last five games with a groin injury but did practice with the club on Sunday.
Simon Benoit stepped in on Monday and logged 14:41 of ice time in his Leafs debut. The Leafs had more trust in the defenseman than Max Lajoie, who dressed as the sixth defenseman on Saturday and logged just 4:54 in a 6-4 loss to the Buffalo Sabres.
It is expected that Joseph Woll will get the nod in goal for the Toronto Maple Leafs after he stepped in for Ilya Samsonov on Monday and made 18 saves on 19 shots on Monday.
The Ottawa Senators have had a difficult couple of weeks. After learning that they would be forfeiting a first-round draft pick due to their involvement in Evgeni Dadonov's canceled trade from the Vegas Golden Knights to the Anaheim Ducks in 2022, they immediately dismissed Pierre Dorion as GM. On the ice, they've dropped five of their six results but could get defenseman Artem Zub back in the lineup based on practice lines on Tuesday.
Oh, and Brady Tkachuk is commenting on Sens fans following their most recent defeat.
