Fans of the Toronto Maple Leafs are putting on their detective hats after the team made a cryptic and silent change to its social media presence. On Thursday, the Leafs altered their profile pictures on X and Facebook, sparking speculation as they replaced all the ‘O’s’ in the text with empty spaces in the words of their revolving “Forever” logo.
This tweak has left fans creating numerous narratives wondering if the Leafs are teasing a new logo, a larger brand overhaul, or a hint at the NHL’s season opener. If you look at the profile picture as a clock, the missing letters would be absent from the ‘8’ and the ‘10’. The season begins in North America on Oct. 8 (10/08) and could be a tip of the hat to the new NHL year.
The team’s social media accounts have been quiet about the change, offering no explanation, which has only continued more speculation. Notably, similar changes were seen outside of Scotiabank Arena, where the revised logo made an appearance on the digital board, as captured by “evanslarsons” on X.
The board reads:
T R NT MAPLE LEAFS
H ME PENER
SATURDAY, CT BER 12TH
It isn’t uncommon for professional sports teams, including the Leafs, to post cryptic or silent social media updates as they build up momentum for an announcement, unveiling, or event on the calendar. With the NHL season just around the corner, it can be expected the mystery will soon be revealed. But for now, we will have to wait and see what’s behind the missing ‘O’s.’
Whatever it is, the stunt has people talking.
