Treliving addressed the injuries of Connor Dewar, Fraser Minten, Ben Danford, and Ryan Tverberg.

On the opening day of the Toronto Maple Leafs’ 2024 training camp, general manager Brad Treliving spoke during the team’s media availability, delivering key injury updates on several players, including Connor Dewar, Fraser Minten, Ben Danford, and Ryan Tverberg.

At the conclusion of the 2023-24 season, Treliving had mentioned Dewar would require shoulder surgery, which took place on May 10. As a result, Dewar will not participate in camp to start. Treliving confirmed that Dewar’s recovery timeline is still uncertain, but the team remains hopeful for a timely return while carefully monitoring his progress.

In Game 2 of the Leafs’ Prospect Showdown against the Montreal Canadiens’ top prospects, Minten took a hit late in the second period, falling awkwardly into the boards – not returning to the game. Minten had three points (1G, 2A) in his two appearances and was evaluated upon returning to Toronto.

Results revealed that the 20-year-old is dealing with a high-ankle sprain. His timeline remains unclear, but Treliving suggested that Minten’s return could take weeks – not committing to a specific timeframe.

The Leafs’ first-round pick from the 2024 NHL Entry Draft (31st overall), Ben Danford, left rookie practice with an apparent head injury on September 12, after a scrum in the corner. Treliving confirmed that Danford sustained a concussion and stated that he could come back soon.

Treliving also gave an update on Tverberg, who has spent the previous two seasons with the AHL’s Toronto Marlies. Tverberg, the Leafs’ seventh-round pick in the 2020 NHL Entry Draft (213th overall), underwent shoulder surgery but could return soon. In 46 games in the 2023-24 season, the 22-year-old scored nine goals and 23 assists for 32 points.
