‘Is It Boston?’: William Nylander Among Maple Leafs Players Who Hilariously Fail to Identify Their Own Goal Horn in Latest BarDown YouTube Video

Members of the Leafs have participated in Bardown’s quiz videos for several years now, particularly their ‘call out’ series.

Rogers Communications has purchased Bell Media's 37.5 percent stake in Toronto Maple Leafs' parent company MLSE. Operationally, what will change with how the team is run?

On Wednesday, the YouTube channel ‘BarDown’ posted a video featuring nine players from the Toronto Maple Leafs attempting to identify various NHL goal horns. The participants included William Nylander, Morgan Rielly, Mitch Marner, Joseph Woll, John Tavares, Auston Matthews, Max Domi, Matthew Knies, and Anthony Stolarz. The group was tasked with recognizing 10 goal horns, including their own – Toronto’s – at the beginning of the video.

In a hilarious twist, many failed to recognize the horn that belonged to their own team, with Nylander asking, “Is it Boston?” after being informed that it was the one he had heard the most.

Initially, when asked if the horn sounded familiar, Nylander replied, “Not at all.” Rielly chimed in with a similar sentiment, stating, “They all sound the same.” It seemed to be a common theme, as Woll added, “(I have) literally no idea” and Marner said, “I don’t have a damn clue.”

As the rest of the group was told, the reactions drew disbelief from most: “That’s our team? Did we change it again? “Talk about zoning out. Alright, 0-for-1 with our own (horn) – nice,” said Marner.

Domi, Knies, and Tavares were the only players who seemed to identify their own goal horn correctly.

“I think it’s us (Toronto),” Knies said, followed by Domi, who remarked, “Oh is that us? We changed it like 30 times; I have no clue.” Tavares, the 15-year NHL veteran, noted that he had become accustomed to the horn from hearing it so often.

“You kind of just get used to it too. It’s what you hear. You’re already in a pretty good mood because you scored a goal or you’re scoring lots of goals.”

Surprisingly, Leafs nation learned that Domi is not a fan of the former goal song from Hall and Oates, “You Make My Dreams.”

“Hall and Oates is terrible. The worst. Thank god we switched that. It’s just bad – not the vibe.”

The final horn that was played in the quiz belonged to the Bruins, prompting comical responses from the players.

Nylander, with a grin, said, “That one I’ve heard; that one I know – that’s Boston. That one was Game 7, 1-1.”

Woll, who also answered correctly, said, “I feel like you are unlocking bad memories in my brain as we’re doing this.”

Obviously, the bad memories stem from their lack of playoff success at TD Garden, losing there in Game 7 in 2013, 2018, 2019, and most recently, 2024.

Collectively, most of the group answered it correctly given the iconic song that follows the Bruins’ horn. After all, the Leafs have previously used the Bruins’ horn in a different era, ‘Zombie Nation,’ and the current horn sounds eerily similar.
