The two NHL All-Stars had some fun on Instagram after Team Matthews defeated Team McDavid in the final.
The 2024 NHL All-Star Game is now a thing of the past, but it hasn't stopped some of the participants from sharing posts about the weekend of events.
Toronto Maple Leafs star forward Auston Matthews reflected on his winning weekend. He captained a team that shared a $1 million prize. In an Instagram post, he shared the group photo of his team collecting the novelty check along with a message.
"ASG 24’ Thank you Toronto! ," Matthews posted.
Edmonton Oilers forward Leon Draisaitl has a goal and two assists while representing Team McDavid in the final game against Team Matthews but fell 7-4.
Draisaitl chirped Matthews in his post.
"Keep ur head up," Draisaitl posted.
Matthews acknowledged it with a reply of his own.
"Get away from me," he replied.
Matthews, for his efforts, was also named the NHL First Star of the Week for his performance this weekend.
The Maple Leafs and Oilers have had an epic rivalry since the two teams were placed in the 'North Division' for the 2021 COVID-shortened season. Whenever the teams meet, there's a lot of focus on Matthews and McDavid, but Draisaitl has certainly entered the chat with his strong play over the years.
The Oilers are on an incredibly 16-game winning streak and will try to extend it to 17 on Tuesday when they take on the Vegas Golden Knights.
The Leafs resume their season on a more modest three-game winning streak on Monday when they host the Patrick Roy-coached New York Islanders.
The Oilers and Leafs will meet for the final time in the regular season at Scotiabank Arena on Mar. 23. Until then, all the interactions will be away from the ice.
