The Toronto Maple Leafs revealed Krill Marchenko would not return against the Calgary Flames after suffering a lower-body injury in the second period.
Toronto Maple Leafs left winger Kirill Marchenko left Monday's game against the Calgary Flames early. He played 7:05 before his awkward fall that left him favoring his left knee, and hobbled to the dressing room in the second period.
Marchenko was bumped by Flames center Yegor Sharangovich, and his left knee was bent backwards as he fell to the ice, sliding into the boards. Almost immediately, he grabbed his left knee and winced for a brief moment. He then skated slowly to the bench and didn't see the ice again.
The Maple Leafs revealed he wouldn't return to the game just before the start of the third period.
The 26-year-old Russian has featured in all 14 outings for the Maple Leafs since the team acquired him one day before the regular season kicked off. Since then, he's scored six goals and 14 points. He also averaged 18:25 of ice time before Toronto's game against Calgary.
Easton Cowan was a beneficiary of the extra available ice time with the Leafs playing with 11 forwards for essentially the second half of the game. Cowan scored his sixth goal of the season and Toronto's first goal of the contest, bringing the game to 3-1 in Calgary's favor.
