The Toronto Maple Leafs' organization continues to take shape as GM John Chayka revamps another area of the club's staff. This time, it's the sport performance department.

The Toronto Maple Leafs have announced another four new hires to the organization on Monday. This time, the changes come to the club's sport performance department in a revamp of that area of staff.

It will be led by Andy O'Brien, who has been named vice president of the Sport Performance department. He will oversee the Maple Leafs' strength and conditioning, sport science, sports nutrition, injury rehabilitation, and mental performance programs.

Joining O'Brien's team are Dr. Craig Slaunwhite as director of health and performance integration, Jason Martin as head strength and conditioning coach, and Josh Crouse as assistant strength and conditioning coach, while Dr. Jordan Shallow will join as human performance consultant.

“We are thrilled to welcome Andy and his sports performance team to the Toronto Maple Leafs and look forward to the impact they will have on the organization,” Leafs GM John Chayka said in a statement. “Providing every resource possible to help our players perform at their best is the highest priority at every level of the organization."

Chayka has been looking for improvements and overhauls in all areas of the organization, with the sport performance department seeing the latest activity. Several changes have also come to the team's front office, coaching staff, roster, drafting and developing, and more.

At the end of the day, the most valuable franchise in the NHL must provide the best resources to its players.

Our ownership group has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to investing in player care, the player experience, and the resources required to help our players succeed every day," Chayka said. "We will continue to invest in every opportunity to maximize the development and performance of every player. Andy’s record as an innovator and winner, coupled with his values, philosophy and vision, are wholly aligned with what we are building here in Toronto.”
