Can Shaq attack the paint on the ice like Zach Hyman? He gave it a shot during the first intermission of the Carolina Hurricanes and New Islanders Game 4 contest.
Sheldon Keefe was asked about Edmonton Oilers Zach Hyman's breakout season when club was in Toronto during the final month of the regular season and the Toronto Maple Leafs head coach wasn't surprised at the forward's ability to score down low.
"When I was with the Marlies, we called him 'Shaq Hyman' for a reason, because he got to the paint more and better than anybody," Keefe said. "And now he's playing with the guy that gets the puck to the paint and tilts the ice more than anybody maybe in the history of the game. So it's a good fit. And he works to get to the right places. And he's getting rewarded for it."
Hyman posted a career-high 54 goals for the Oilers this season but his production in the playoffs hasn't slowed down. The former Maple Leaf hasn't slowed down in the playoffs, scoring a league-leading six goals through the first three contests, three more than the next-best player through games played on Friday.
During the first period of the Carolina Hurricanes Game 4 matchup against the New York Islanders, the TNT intermission panel had Shaq make a cameo experience to demonstrate 'Shaq Hyman'.
"Hey, you were great last night again man," Paul Bissonnette said as Shaquille O'Neal strutted in front of the net. "Six goals in the playoffs so far for Shaq Hyman.
TNT has the rights to both NBA and NHL playoff broadcasts in the United States and both shoot out of the same studio in Atlanta. So it's not a complete surprise to see Shaq arrive on set.
Next time he's got to put on the skates.
