Stolarz did some light goaltending work with goalie coach Curtis Sanford before the Leafs’ optional skate on Thursday.
Anthony Stolarz is back on the ice.
The Toronto Maple Leafs goaltender took the ice on Thursday before his club was scheduled to participate in an optional morning skate ahead of their game against the New Jersey Devils on Thursday.
Stolarz has been out of action since last month when a procedure was performed to remove a 'loose body' from the goaltender's knee.
Stolarz did some light work with goaltending coach Curtis Sanford, mostly staying in a prone position in net. He did get into the butterfly position but never went up and down as Sanford fired pucks in his direction.
The goaltender was forced to leave following the first period of the Leafs' game on Dec. 12, a 3-2 win against the Anaheim Ducks. Up until then, Stolarz had been Toronto's top goaltender option, posting a 9-5-2 record with a .927 save percentage.
Stolarz isn't expected to be healthy enough to return to Toronto's lineup until the end of January or early February. At that point, it may make sense to have Stolarz return after the NHL's break for the 4 Nations Face-Off tournament next month.
The Maple Leafs signed the 30-year-old Stolarz to a two-year, $5 million contract in the summer.
