Are there lizards in Sweden? Max Domi wonders the same thing.

Are there lizards in Sweden? Max Domi wonders the same thing.

Toronto Maple Leafs star William Nylander has become known for his offseason Instagram posts as a guy who loves to travel in his downtime. In fact, the majority of his page is travel-related.

In his latest post, he captioned “somewhere”, uploaded on Thursday, the 28-year-old was seen posing in various photos before an image of a lizard stole the spotlight in the third and final photo; well, at least it caught the attention of Leafs forward and pending UFA Max Domi.

“Lizard in Sweden?” Domi questioned through emojis under the post.

It’s unclear where Nylander is given there isn’t a location tied to the carousel, but I don’t believe there are palm trees in Sweden. Nylander was also seen in a video posted a day earlier with his siblings (Alex, Jacquline, Michelle, Stephanie, and Ella) holding up signs labeled “Grattis Ella” meaning “Congratulations Ella” seemingly in the same destination as his Instagram post.

Though Domi’s comment may be a type of inside joke with the Swedish forward, Leaf fans were quick to jump in to express their desire for Domi to return to Toronto next fall. His passion for wearing the Maple Leaf emblem on the front of his sweater won the fanbase over as he was quickly adored by the fans of Leaf Nation.

“I’ve never seen someone with so much passion for this team, please come back,” one commenter said.

“Max, please stay in Toronto. You were a welcome addition to the team, bringing an element that they have lacked for a long time. Sincerely, please stay a Leaf. You were born with blue blood,” another commenter added.

Domi signed a one-year $3 million contract in the summer of 2023 and is set to become an unrestricted free agent (UFA) on July 1. In his lone season with the club, Domi scored 9 goals paired with 39 assists in the regular season – good enough for 47 points in 80 games. In the postseason, he added another goal and three assists for four points in seven games.

In terms of resigning with the team, it seems both player and management want to get a deal in place for him to remain a Maple Leaf. More recently, general manager Brad Treliving expressed his interest in retaining the veteran forward with conversations already beginning to take place with his agent Judd Moldaver, but no numbers have been put forward yet.

When discussing the possibility of resigning with Toronto this summer at the team’s end-of-season media availability, Domi stated without hesitation “Absolutely. I think this team has everything it takes to do something special and I would love to help them do that.” Now just a few weeks away from free agency, the direction of this negotiation will soon start to take form more clearly.
