DENVER — The Toronto Maple Leafs are loving life right now as they enjoy the spoils of their most recent victory, a 4-3 triumph over the Colorado Avalanche on Saturday.

It was a breakout performance for Tyler Bertuzzi. Signed to a one-year, $5.5 million contract this past summer, the forward scored his first multi-goal game in the regular season in over two years with a hat trick against the 2022 Stanley Cup champions.

Domi received the player-of-the-game trophy, a wrestling belt gifted by professional wrestler and professed Leafs fan Adam Copeland. After that, another free agent pickup from the summer, Max Domi, took to social media to serenade Bertuzzi with a rendition of 'Happy Birthday' as the team boarded their flight back to Toronto after a four-game road trip.

Bertuzzi became the first player in franchise history to record a hat trick on his birthday. Domi, who signed a one-year, $3 million contract with the Leafs in the summer, and Bertuzzi have enjoyed some success over the last week after they were placed on a line with star forward William Nylander.

"He was due. I think the last couple of weeks he’s been playing some great hockey," Leafs teammate Mitch Marner said of Bertuzzi. "That line between him, Willy and Domes, they move the puck very well. They communicate very well. They do a great job in the O-zone and through all three zones.

"All three guys got a lot of skill and can make plays and Bert’s that guy that can get into the grimy areas and he got rewarded for it tonight."

The Leafs are enjoying a seven-game winning streak at the moment. It's their longest of the season and longest since 2003. Bertuzzi has also enjoyed a promotion to the top power-play unit, replacing captain John Tavares.

Bertuzzi scored two of his three goals on Saturday with the man advantage.
