VANCOUVER — Morgan Rielly is set for some more responsibility when he gets ready to take part in his first NHL All-Star Game.

The Toronto Maple Leafs defenseman was announced as an assistant captain for 'Team Matthews' at the 2024 NHL All-Star Weekend which takes place Nov. 1-3 in Toronto.

It was previously reported that Justin Bieber would serve as a celebrity captain with Auston Matthews as one of four teams. The trio will help shape one of the four teams with the fantasy draft portion making a return for the 3-on-3 exhibition tournament that will take place at Scotiabank Arena on Feb. 3.

Rielly, William Nylander and Mitch Marner were voted into the NHL All-Star game by fans. Matthews was named by the NHL part of the initial 32 players (one from every NHL team).

"Just grateful to be part of the team, you can't do it without your teammates," Rielly told Sportsnet before their 5-3 loss to the Colorado Avalanche on Jan. 13.

'Team Matthews' will wear blue NHL All-Star jerseys. The other three teams will wear, red, white and yellow.

Rielly has seven goals and 28 assists in 43 games this season.

The NHL also announced the results of the fan vote for two more players to join the previously-announced 10 players for the $1 million NHL All-Star skills competition.

Matthews and Nylander were already confirmed for the event. Both of those spots went to Canucks defenseman Quinn Hughes and Canucks forward J.T. Miller.
